PORCHFIELD VILLAGE HALL REPAIRS

Thanks to Awards for All who have kindly given us £10,000 towards the repairs of Porchfield Village Hall that has allowed us to have the underpinning of the hall repaired.

As a Council we had put money on one side as we knew some repairs needed to be done but we did not know they were as extensive as they were. The work has been carried out by K. Coglan and Cowan's Consultancy on behalf of the Council.

Needless to say we were prepared to discover other problems during the repairs but we did not expect to have to remove asbestos and also discover the extent of damage caused by drainage problems on the structure and also having to put in an open ditch.

We have concerns over the levels of the hall floor. A section of the floor was lifted and it was found that polystyrene had been put under the floor but it was not the correct type and had subsequently sunk down with weight of chairs being put on the floor and hall use

On top of that wood had been put on and on top of the wood there was plastic and carpet that had been stuck down. Floor levels were taken of the whole of the floor which showed it was all at different levels and the hall floor needed to be repaired/replaced.

The cost of sorting the floor out is not yet known and we are awaiting a report from Cowan's Consultancy. In the meantime, the Clerk is sourcing grants to do this repair.
